In Etheria: Restart, Shells are one of the most important tools for empowering your characters, functioning similarly to “weapons” in other RPGs. While Modules act as gear sets that enhance stats, Shells offer both direct stat boosts and active/passive abilities that can turn the tide of battle. This guide breaks down the Shell system in full — from unlocking and equipping to optimizing and rerolling for maximum efficiency — so both new players and veterans can master Shell crafting and customization.
What Are Shells in Etheria Restart?
Shells are equippable items that significantly boost a character’s performance by:
- Increasing base stats (HP, DEF, ATK, SPD)
- Unlocking powerful skill effects
- Adding up to 3 unique passive bonuses
- Contributing Matrix to activate Set bonuses
Unlike characters or Modules, Shells cannot be summoned via gacha. They must be earned through gameplay — primarily from the Grim Pursuit mode.
Shell Stats and Bonuses Explained
Each Shell provides a combination of core stats and bonus effects. Here’s a detailed breakdown:
Base Stats
Every Shell boosts the following stats:
- HP, DEF, ATK: Varies by Shell
- SPD: Fixed value per rarity (no RNG)
This makes high-rarity Shells especially valuable, as they naturally offer better base stat increases.
Shell Passive Effect
As you level up and ascend a Shell, up to three passive slots unlock. These provide specialized stat enhancements.
Rare will have 1 Slot, Unique can unlock 2 slot and Epic all 3 slots can be unlocked. Each Passive has 4 rarity:Yellow (only in slot 3) Purple, Blue and Green. In these Purple has best stats. Here is below list of all Slot passives.

Shell Skills
Each Shell has one unique skill — either active or passive — that directly impacts combat. These are:
- Tied to the Shell itself (not transferable)
- Triggered automatically (on cooldown or condition)
These skills can grant buffs, debuffs, healing, shielding, or even special damage procs. Since every Shell has its own skill, part of the meta game is matching characters with Shells whose abilities enhance their core gameplay loop.
Shell Matrix
Shells play a vital role in optimizing Matrix set bonuses by contributing Matrix Levels — an invisible system that determines whether you can unlock 4/8/12-set Matrix Effect bonuses on your character.
How It Works:
- Each Shell has up to 3 Set slots.
- Each Set slot contributes 1 to 3 Matrix Levels
- That means a Shell can contribute up to 9 Matrix Levels
- Combine that with the 18 Matrix Levels from Modules for a total of 27 Matrix Levels
💡 This system allows flexible set building. For example, if your Modules only total 10 Matrix Levels for a set that requires 12, a Shell with the right Set and Matrix Level fills in the gap.
Shell Rarity and Progression
Higher-rarity Shells offer:
- Better base stats
- Higher potential passive stat values
- More impactful Shell skills
- More Matrix Levels
Shell rarity also determines the speed stat, but all Shells of the same rarity share the same speed boost — no RNG here!
How to Unlock and Upgrade Shells
Where to Farm Shells
Shells are acquired exclusively from:
- Grim Pursuit game mode
Shell drop rates, difficulty scaling, and performance efficiency depend on how well your team is optimized for that content. Since bosses are relatively easier than Threshold bosses, even SR teams can clear them reliably.
How to Level Up and Ascend Shells
Leveling up Shells increases stats and unlocks passive slots:
- Use Shell enhancement materials
- Ascend them to unlock all passive slots
- Maximize stats and boost overall value
🔁 Don’t settle for mediocre passives. You can reroll passives until you get the ideal stat combination for your character’s build using resources farmed in the same mode.
Optimizing Shell Selection by Game Phase
Early Game
- Focus on getting any Shells of Epic rarity or above
- Prioritize Shells with:
- SPD passives
- Skills that provide sustain or AOE support
Use these to smooth out difficulty spikes in Main Story and Investigation mode.
Mid Game
- Start targeting Red Shells
- Look for Matrix Level-heavy Shells that help activate full 12-set bonuses on Modules
- Reroll passives for:
- Crit Rate / DMG for DPS
- Effect ACC / RES for supports
- SPD for sustainers and initiators
Late Game / Endgame
- Build Shell-Module synergy for full team optimization
- Max out passives and reroll until you get:
- Perfect main stats (ATK%, HP%, etc.)
- Elite-tier passives (e.g., elemental damage bonus, shield amp, turn manipulation)
- Match Shell skills to character role for passive utility stacking or burst potential
Shells aren’t just another stats weapons — they are a foundational pillar of character growth and team synergy in Etheria: Restart. Whether you’re building your first team or min-maxing for PvP dominance, mastering the Shell system is essential for staying ahead in both PvE and PvP content.
Start farming, start rerolling, and unleash the true power of your Animus.
