GameSpy Master Server Down

posted: 05:02 am by: Laurie

For the last few days, the GameSpy Master Server has been down and why the RUNE and HOV "Master Server Inquiry" keeps timing out when you try connecting. The problem affects several games using GameSpy across the board. So RUNE/HOV are NOT the only games affected!

The GameSpy Tech Wizards are working hard to fix the problems. (You can find out which games are affected here) Here is the reply to my inquiry from [Wiz]Falcon

Greetings,

Yes the master server query is down as of right now and we are aware of the problems. The other GameSpy Volunteers(The other Helpers, Wizards and Guardians) and I are going around each game lobby on GameSpy Arcade and making note of the other lobbies and games that have similar problems that way we can get the Techies to fix the servers for each game.

Thanks for your patience, [WIZ]Falcon

You can still connect to RUNE and HOV servers through your "Favorites" Menu. Be sure to check the updated Server IP Addresses to add to your "Favorites" IP list.

Any new updates from the GameSpy Techs will be posted in the Master Server UP! (&Downs) subject thread. The link is:

Frozn: Rune Multi-Core Loader w/CPU Sync

posted: 11:02 pm by: Laurie

Frozn's Rune Multi-Core Loader with CPU Sync is now available for downloading.

On modern computers, Rune tends to run badly. To get around this, he has found a solution where you can start RUNE on a single core without using the compatibility mode. He has also found that setting CPUSPEED makes Rune synchronize to faster processors than it was designed for. Instructions are included in the download.

Frozn has provided the download through the "Tyrants of Rune" Downloads "Extras" page. You can post any feedback and/or comments there. Also he provides more detailed information through the Windows 7 Problem subject thread.

New Unreal Engine Direct3D 10 Renderer

posted: 06:02 pm by: Laurie

For those with more modern systems (i.e. Windows 7, Vista 32/64 bit) and wishing their Unreal Engine based game would look better, it has finally happened! I would like to thank Annihilus88 for contacting Marijn Kintie who made this possible. A new "Unreal Engine Direct3D Renderer" by Marijn Kintie is now available for downloading.

Marijn is part of a group of "OldUnreal Engine modders" who have gone through a lot of effort to improve and update the Unreal Engine for the older games. So, I know any comments and/or feedback would be very appreciated.

The new renderer supports all Unreal Engine games (Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex and Rune). For us, this means All versions of RUNE and HOV for any Runegamers with Vista 32/64bit and Windows 7.

From Marijn Kintie:

This Direct3D 10 renderer for Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex and Rune aims to provide a good, consistent looking and future proof renderer for these games. The focus is not on fancy effects; the idea is to have something that will allow these games to perform well and look good on modern systems, something which I can support and bugfix.

Written from scratch, it ditches a lot of legacy stuff and profits from the fact that D3D10 support means a clear baseline. Furthermore, source code and documentation are provided....

Epic, Human Head and Ion Storm were kind enough to release headers/libraries with which to create C++ mods for their games. These code releases included the code for the default OpenGL and Direct3D 6/7 renderers and the files these need to include/link against to compile (each game's renderer needs that game's specific support files).

Marijn's "Download" (and web pages) are available through the link below. There you will find "Downloads", "Screenshots", "Features" and more.

Also, Annihilus88 has additional information through his Windows 7 Problem thread. As he says:

If you run Vista or Win7 32 or 64bit and play 1920x1080 and up, get this version! It's a MUST

Rune Hordes dot INFO updates

posted: 04:00 am by: Laurie

Six seasons have passed since SorenBjerg posted his "Ragnarok!" and reopened The RUNE HORDES dot INFO project gates once more to the joyous clamor of "Hails" from the RuneGame Community.

From my recent visits there, I see many new RuneHordes have appeared and signed on. Others have registered and awaiting inclusion in the list by SorenBjerg as soon as he can. I saw a few old Hordes have reformed and "respawned". While other old grizzled warrior Hordes remain as active as ever. A frothy "Meadhorn of Welcome" is raised to all of you!

Be sure to check out the RuneHordes dot INFO forums to learn more! Also from SorenBjerg comes this reminder to all RuneHorde Leaders:

Don't forget to update your horde's level of activity!
He can not do this alone and your help is sincerely appreciated to make sure this gets done.
